Camille Georges, Deputy Director of the EDHEC Quantum Institute, spoke at the Deeptech Quantique conference organised by AKTANTIS in Marseille. The event brought together researchers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, investors and policymakers to explore how France and Europe can turn scientific excellence into technological and industrial leadership.
During her presentation, Camille Georges provided an overview of quantum technologies and their applications, highlighting the transition from the first to the second quantum revolution.
Quantum computing, sensing, communications and security are no longer purely theoretical fields. These technologies are expected to transform industries including healthcare, energy, finance, manufacturing and defence. For organisations and decision-makers, the challenge is now to understand these developments, identify their potential applications and prepare for the opportunities and risks they will create.
The conference also provided an opportunity to discuss several of the key issues shaping the development of the quantum ecosystem. These included France’s national quantum strategy with Sébastien Tanzilli from CNRS, the industrialisation of quantum technologies with Paul Greve from Quobly, talent development with Aurore Nizan Bars from Kwan-tek, and post-quantum cybersecurity with Mylène Roussellet from Thales Cyber and Digital and Gweltas Radenac from SEALSQ.
One of the main conclusions of the day was that the future of quantum technology is not solely a scientific challenge. It is also a human, industrial and strategic one. In an increasingly competitive international environment, building strong connections between research institutions, businesses, investors and public authorities will be essential to creating a resilient and innovative European quantum ecosystem.
This collective effort closely reflects the mission of the EDHEC Quantum Institute: helping business leaders and policymakers understand quantum technologies, anticipate their economic and societal implications, and prepare for the transformations ahead.
The EDHEC Quantum Institute thanks Fabienne De Toma, Gerard Martinez and the entire AKTANTIS team for organising the conference, as well as all the speakers and participants who contributed to the discussions.
Quantum is a team sport, and this event offered a compelling reminder of the importance of collaboration in shaping its future.
