About the EDHEC Quantum Institute

The EDHEC Quantum Institute is the first quantum institute hosted by a business school. Founded in 2026 by Professor Lionel Martellini, it bridges quantum science and business decision-making through research, education, industry engagement and outreach. Based at EDHEC Business School in Nice, France, the institute helps business leaders and decision-makers understand and prepare for the impact of quantum technologies.

Our mission

The EDHEC Quantum Institute aims to bridge the gap between quantum science and business decision-making. It contributes to reframing how quantum technologies are conceptualized and communicated. Through an integrated set of research, education, outreach and industry engagement initiatives, the Institute translates quantum concepts into an intelligible and operational form for business leaders and society at large, thereby supporting more informed strategic decision-making in an increasingly quantum-driven environment.

Building on this foundation, the Institute fosters the adoption of quantum technologies in key sectors such as finance and telecommunications. It does so through the development of rigorous and relevant use cases, while embedding quantum-related perspectives within EDHEC’s academic programs and research agenda. In doing so, it seeks to establish EDHEC as a leading academic voice at the intersection of quantum technologies and business. This positioning contributes to the structuring of this emerging field and to the evolution of management education and industry practices.

Why a quantum institute in a business school

Most quantum institutes sit within the physics and engineering departments of leading universities. A dedicated quantum institute hosted by a business school is an international first, and the choice is deliberate. Quantum is a public good whose technological implications are too consequential to remain the preserve of a small circle of specialists. Placing the Institute within a business school moves quantum beyond a strictly technological framing and embeds it in a broader vision, one that integrates its economic, strategic, and societal dimensions, and equips leaders to act on them.

What we do

The Institute’s work spans four connected activities.

  • Research
The Institute runs three research initiatives: two sector verticals and one transversal foundation. Quantum Technologies for Finance and Insurance and Quantum Technologies for Information and Communication examine where quantum creates value and where it introduces risk in each industry. Foundations of Quantum Mechanics runs across both and gives the applied work its conceptual grounding.
  • Education
The Institute develops introductory courses, electives and conference formats to build quantum literacy among EDHEC students. It also delivers short executive education programs in both an open enrollment and custom formats to enhance quantum awareness for the business leaders who must make quantum-related decisions.
  • Business
The Institute helps companies evaluate, pilot and adopt quantum technologies against concrete strategic challenges, develops a Quantum Risk Assessment Framework, and contributes to the incubation of startups in the quantum technology space.
  • Outreach
The Institute explains quantum science to non-specialist audiences, countering both excessive skepticism and uncritical enthusiasm.

Research

Our research is organized around three initiatives. Two are sector verticals: Quantum Technologies for Finance and Insurance, and Quantum Technologies for Information and Communication, the latter conducted within a joint EDHEC-EURECOM laboratory. The third, Foundations of Quantum Mechanics, is transversal and informs both. Together they cover the opportunities quantum opens across industries, and also the risks it may raise for security.

Education

The Institute educates two audiences: EDHEC Business School students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, through introductory courses, electives and conference formats, and experienced professionals, through short executive education programs that build the strategic literacy leaders need to assess quantum risk and opportunities.

Business

Through its Innovation Hub, the Institute connects quantum research with industry. Among other initiatives, it contributes to the incubation of startups in the quantum technology space, develops a Quantum Risk Assessment Framework, and brings together technology providers, industry players and other actors of the quantum ecosystem.

Managing Team

The Institute is led by a team that combines academic research, hands-on experience in the quantum industry, and a background in marketing and corporate communications.

Lionel Martellini, PhD

Founding Director

Lionel Martellini is the founding director of the EDHEC Quantum Institute and research director at the CFA Institute Research Foundation. He previously held academic positions at USC, Princeton and MIT. He holds PhDs in Finance from UC Berkeley and in Relativistic Astrophysics.
His research focuses on quantitative finance, investment management and quantum science. A member of the editorial board of The Journal of Portfolio Management, he has published extensively in leading academic and practitioner journals. He has also developed programs in Data Science and Climate Finance, advised major financial institutions, and co-founded ventures focused on quantitative investment strategies.

Camille Georges

Deputy Director

Camille Georges brings a rare combination of engineering expertise and strategic vision, with a background spanning physics, business, and international ecosystem building. Previously a Quantum Technology Specialist at the World Economic Forum, she convened leaders from science, industry, and policy to shape the governance and adoption of emerging technologies. Before that, she served as Director of Operations at SBQuantum, a quantum sensing startup, where she led international partnerships, notably with the European Space Agency. She holds an MBA from the Collège des Ingénieurs, a highly selective program tailored for engineers and scientists, and an engineering degree from ESPCI Paris.

Noëmie Nevers

Head of Marketing & Communications

Noëmie Nevers is a communication and marketing professional with over a decade of experience across technology, aerospace, and international business. Before joining the Institute, she spent nearly four years at Thales Alenia Space in external communications, media relations, branding, and international exhibitions. At EQI, she drives the Institute’s global positioning in quantum technologies, building visibility among business leaders, policymakers, and media through strategic communications, partnerships, and events. She holds dual master’s degrees in Corporate Communication and International Affairs.

EDHEC Business School

EDHEC Business School was founded in the early 20th century by industrialists in northern France. True to the humanist vision already driving the School’s founders in 1906, EDHEC’s raison d’être is to place business at the service of the common good. It’s a project that the school is carrying out today thanks to “Générations 2050”, its 2024-2028 strategic plan, built for future generations. Thanks to the excellence of its teaching, its policy of social openness and its privileged links with the business world, EDHEC ranks among the top 10 business schools in Europe. The school is recognized for its internationalized outlook and approach, its high-quality teaching faculty and its ability to appropriate contemporary subjects like quantum, AI, sustainable finance, net positive businesses and diversity and inclusion. Operating as a higher education institution with a not-for-profit status, EDHEC is administered by various governance bodies intent on preserving its identity and ensuring its prosperity. It also holds leading international accreditations (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA: to confirm before publication).
