Quantum Education for EDHEC Students

Quantum education for EDHEC students spans the Undergraduate, Grande École, and MBA programs, from introductory courses, electives and keynote formats to strategic courses on decision-making in the quantum era. The goal is not to train quantum engineers, but to prepare future business leaders to understand and act on quantum technologies.

The EDHEC Quantum Institute develops educational approaches specifically designed for business school students and economic leaders. Its pedagogy offers an intuitive reading of the quantum formalism that avoids unnecessary mathematical abstraction, allowing learners to build a genuine understanding of quantum concepts as a natural extension and, where necessary, a revision of classical intuition.

Why quantum belongs in a business education

Education is a key strategic component of the EDHEC Quantum Institute. The talent gap in quantum technologies is large and new educational programs are needed to train experts that can combine knowledge in quantum physics and business applications. In a nutshell, the education pillar of the EDHEC Quantum Institute is designed to equip future business leaders and decision-makers with the foundational knowledge and strategic insight required to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of quantum technologies. By integrating quantum science with management education, the initiative addresses the growing need for interdisciplinary talent capable of bridging deep tech and real-world applications, and ambitions to impact all of EDHEC’s programs, at the Undergraduate, Grande Ecole and MBA levels.

As the first quantum institute hosted by a business school, the Institute teaches quantum as a business and strategy subject, not only as a technology, so that students learn to weigh its risks and opportunities before they lead.

Quantum across EDHEC programs

  • Undergraduate & Master 1: foundation courses and electives

At the undergraduate and M1 levels, the EDHEC Quantum Institute develops and offers courses introducing the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, and their implications for sectors such as finance, logistics, and cybersecurity. These courses are tailored to a non-technical audience, emphasizing conceptual understanding, practical relevance, and emerging business models, and will be offered to all undergraduate and graduate students at EDHEC.

  • MBA: strategic decision-making in the quantum era

For MBA students, we develop advanced electives with a focus on strategic decision-making in the quantum era, with case studies on early adopters and quantum venture investment.

The program is forthcoming; partners, curriculum and admissions will be announced when it opens.

What students learn

Across these programs, students gain a working grasp of quantum concepts, an understanding of where the technology creates value and risk by sector (finance, telecommunications, space, logistics, cybersecurity, and beyond), and the strategic vocabulary to govern innovation, intellectual property, and quantum risk. For plain-language definitions, see the quantum glossary.

Faculty

Quantum courses at EDHEC are taught by EDHEC Quantum Institute faculty and researchers, connecting teaching to the Institute’s three research initiatives, Quantum Technologies for Finance and Insurance, Quantum Technologies for Information and Communication, and the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics. The Institute is directed by Professor Lionel Martellini, Founding Director of the EDHEC Quantum Institute and a specialist in quantitative finance and risk.

FAQ

No. These courses are aimed at a non-technical audience from the business world. They focus on concepts, practical applications and business models rather than on mathematics or programming; they are therefore accessible to students on all EDHEC programmes.

Modules on quantum technology are now available to undergraduate and first-year Master’s students, as well as – for advanced strategic content – as part of the MBA programme. The formats range from lectures to introductory courses and optional modules. The Institute’s aim is to make the teaching of quantum technology accessible to all EDHEC undergraduate and Master’s students.

Not yet. An interdisciplinary master’s combining quantum information science with business and management is currently under discussion with strategic partners. In the meantime, quantum is taught across existing programs.
