Partnership with EURECOM strengthens quantum information research capacity

The EDHEC Quantum Institute and EURECOM have created a Joint Lab dedicated to quantum technologies for information and communication. It brings researchers from both institutions together to study how quantum technologies will change the security and performance of communication networks.

Two complementary institutions

EURECOM is a graduate school of engineering and a research centre in digital sciences, with Institut Mines-Télécom as a founding member. Its strengths in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and future networks complement the EDHEC Quantum Institute’s expertise in quantum technologies, decision sciences, finance and risk.

The Joint Lab is hosted by the EDHEC-EURECOM Quantum Technologies for Information and Communications Initiative, one of the Institute’s three research initiatives. On the EURECOM side, the research team is led by Arun Padakandla.

What the lab will work on

In the near term, the lab focuses on technologies already approaching deployment: post-quantum cryptography, early quantum key distribution (QKD) networks and quantum sensing for communication systems. In the medium term, the emphasis shifts to hybrid classical-quantum networks and quantum repeaters, with the longer-term ambition of contributing to a quantum internet.

Why it matters for organisations

Encrypted data captured today can be stored and decrypted once quantum computers mature. That makes the migration to post-quantum cryptography, a set of classical algorithms designed to resist quantum attacks, a present concern rather than a distant one.

The partnership strengthens the Institute’s ability to connect quantum science with practical applications. Discover the research initiative.
